【摘要】:ThistechnicalreportprovidesanintroductiontothesetofInternationalStandardswhichdescribelocalareanetworks,specificallythosewhichmakeuseofthe48-bitMACaddressformat.TheMACtechnologiesdescribedinthistechnicalreporthaveincommontheabilitytoprovidesufficientcapabilitytosupporttheMACServicewhichisdefinedinISO/IEC15802-1.ThescopeofthisTechnicalReportisthereforelimitedtothoseInternationalStandardswhichdescribeprocessesandproceduresresidentintheDataLinkandPhysicalLayersoftheOSIBasicReferenceModelandcanbesaidtorelatetolocalareanetworks.ThistechnicalreportdoesnotitselfdescribenewServiceorProtocoldefinitions.ItsintentistosetthecontextforlocalareanetworkswhichincludeboththeInternationalStandardsdescribingFDDIandthetechnologiesdescribedbythesetofISO/IEC8802InternationalStandards.AdditionallythistechnicalreportprovidestherecordofcooperativeworkbetweenISO/IECJTC1SC6WG1andtheIEEE802LMSCasapartoftheCategoryCliaisonestablishedinNovember1999eitherthroughtheusualFastTrackproceduresorviathecooperativeworkingproceduresdescribedinthistechnicalreport.
